Christopher R. Bettinelli, 85, of Carroll Township and a former Donora fire chief, died Wednesday, June 5, 2002, at 1:30 p.m. in the Malden West Personal Care Facility in North Charleroi after an illness of the past month. He was born Dec. 25, 1916, in Donora, a son of the late Anthony and Maria Amolini Bettinelli. He was a lifelong resident of the Donora and Carroll Township area. He retired with 30 years of service from U.S. Steel, Donora Works, and later retired from Corning Glass Works in Charleroi with 15 years of service. He was a member of Our Lady of the Valley Roman Catholic Church in Donora, the GBU, American Legion Post 212, Donora, and the Donora Fire Volunteer Fire Department, where he was a 50-year member and had served as its fire chief for over 10 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Caroline J. Bettinelli; a daughter, Carol Painter; and two brothers, William and Anthony Bettinelli. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Robert C. and Patty Bettinel li of Donora; two daughters and sons-in-law, Rose Marie and Jerry Lambert of Donora and Christine and Ronald Janney of Monongahela; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three sisters, Enis Sasselli, Irma Biagiani and Amelia Clement, all of Donora; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received in the PAUL MACIK FUNERAL HOME, 546 Thompson Ave., Donora, 7 to 9 p.m. today and 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday. Donora firefighters will meet in a body for funeral services at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A blessing service will be held at 9:30 a.m. Saturday followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at the St. Philip site of Our Lady of the Valley Church, with the Rev. David J. Kriss, pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in Mon Valley Memorial Park, Donora.
